NFL 2009 Preseason Picks Tips
Preseason NFL Football is mostly a crapshoot for betting purposes.
There are some schools of thought about line value or line movement that tell you to look for these shifts and bet the trend, but for the most part they are simply saying a line shift means someone may know something. I don't necessarily agree.
I like to take the dogs, even though I would never seriously bet the NFL preseason games. But if you must, I suggest a few thoughts to consider.
First, find a heavy public consensus favored play and go the other way. Teams getting a 70%+ of the action preseason usually are over subscribed and often don't cover.
The only line changes I consider are when the line for the dog moves, and the dog is getting points. Taking the dog here would be automatic for me. This is usually an overreaction by the oddsmakers to an event and does provide some value.
And I would weight the coach and his status and situation strongly. A new Coach, anxious to get a win, will play for one into the second half. Consider the Detroit Lions first 2009 Preseason game. If ever a coach absolutely needed a win, that game was it. In evaluating any preseason game, put your head into where you think the coachs mind is.
As we look at the 3rd game for preseason, this is as close to seeing what the regular season will bring, the most meaningful game. Use this information for your week 1 team evaluations. The last preseason week's games will be simply the final culling, and will not be indicative of the regular season.

Whew! Last we saw so many upsets that the bookies threw a big party! Just amazing!
But we did well in our NCAAF college football picks, going 3-0 for the ATS picks, a great sweep, and then 3-1 in the straight up moneyline picks. As for NFL, well, we have made some changes to our concensus survey group to boost up the picks.

NFL Outlaw line and early picks for Week5

Last week in the NFL may have been a bookies dream! We saw some upsets that took even the best handicappers by suprise. Our picks sure tanked. But the bright side is that we did have a sweep in the NCAAF picks for ATS, and went 3-1 in the College SU picks.
We should be a bit better this week, and of course in Week 5 we start adding the Over/Under picks for NFL football.

The road to the Superbowl grows a bit narrower and a bit shorter this weekend with the NFL Divisional Playoffs. Traditionally, this weekend belongs to the home teams and, for the straight up picks, this appears to be true again this year. ATS, or against the spread, is a whole different story, with the oddsmakers being pretty generous to the road dogs this year. However, there is some value in these spreads, and some opportunities ATS.

NFL Week 16 Free Football Picks
My top three picks for NFL Week 16 Straight Up to win are:
New England Patriots over the Miami Dolphins - The Pats will put on a show for the hometown fans. Key: An air attack from Brady.
Dallas Cowboys over the Carolina Panthers - Romo will roll on this road trip and TO wil KO the poor Panthers. Key: Cowboys defense will stop the Panthers on the ground, and in the air.
Jaguars over Raiders - Jaguars will roar at home and chase the Raiders off the filed. Key: Jags in the air, Jags on the ground, Jags all around the field.

My top three picks for NFL Football Week 15 Straight Up to win are:
Patriots over the Jets - Brady may set some records in this one. Key: Great Pat's offense against a weak Jets defense.
Colts over the Raiders - Raiders may keep it close on the road weary Colts. Key: Colts receivers will have a field day.
Cowboys over the Eagles - Cowboys want home field advantage and the Eagles are out of it. Key: Eagles secondary is just not up to the challenge.
